Rise Above

Odd fact about me. 6 years ago I worked at least 65 hours training clients. Grinding it out to simply be recognized as a trainer on their own. I was off the grid and knew to be known one day I would have to be willing to outwork anyone and anything.

Now 6 years later, I work 35 to 40 hours but work 70 to 75 hours a week. What the hell does that even mean? Let alone it makes no sense. My actual physical work is 35 to 40 hours a week, in the gym, hands on with clients. My other 30 to 40 hours are spent reading, writing, and communicating with smarter and better coaches than I currently am. The game for me has changed.

My goal was to always be recognized as an expert in my field and after 14 years in the industry some would say I am that, but I still think of myself as the guy who doesn’t know enough still. That thirst for elite recognition keeps me driving and keeps me moving forward, humbly.

Something not many people really know about me other than my other, better half of me, is I read 6 to 8 books a month. They are on anything and everything but currently I am reading about finance and vision setting. This am as I scroll my Facebook all I see is bitching and moaning either about politics, friends, or the weather. Care to know the common theme I noticed? People are bitching about things they cannot control. At the end of the day all those things are what they are. People have lost the desire to stay in their own lane. To grow themselves and really invest in themselves.

That’s where my website is going to be a difference maker in time. A site where we encourage those who want to be better to recognize the white noise and help cast deafness to it for them to focus on themselves. Often we need the reminder from others to inspire and lead. I argue the human spirit is what drives us but also separates us from other species. My vision is lofty, but it sure as hell beats the depression it seems so many of my social media friends are drowning in to keep up with the Joneses.

This is no spiritual journey or finding yourself – none of that feel good stuff, but instead a different kind of feel good – personal empowerment.

At age 9 I was told crutches or wheelchair for life. I refused it and believed in myself. Once the iron and steel touched my hands empowerment and the tools of a artist where recognized. Years later I stand in defiance of negative thinking and thought patterns. This is no spiritual journey or finding yourself – none of that feel good stuff, but instead a different kind of feel good – personal empowerment.

My goal was to always be recognized as an expert in my field and after 14 years in the industry some would say I am that, but I still think of myself as the guy who doesn’t know enough still. That thirst for elite recognition keeps me driving and keeps me moving forward, humbly.

Each day each of us wake up with very little we can control. One thing and I argue one of the only things we truly can control is our health and fitness. Quit blaming others for your lack of control or results. Blame yourself. You and you alone control your health. No one holds a gun to your head and says eat this doughnut or cookie. No one throws themselves in front of you and says stop you can’t go workout! If they do then fire them from your life because they don’t value you.

Find your value. It starts and ends with you, but in the meantime let’s find your value in the one thing you can control and use as an escape much as a I did to a happiness that others are not experiencing which is evident through all forms of media. Live free. Live and be you.
